My internship at UII gave me the opportunity to apply what I was learning in the classroom to real engineering challenges. Working with calibration, metrology, and quality assurance showed me how precision supports mission-critical systems and strengthened my understanding of engineering fundamentals. The experience gave me practical skills and reinforced my interest in pursuing a career in aerospace and defense.

Brandon Lozano, Junior Metrology Technician
Rice University | Summer 2025

Working at UII made me more independent since I was so far away from family and learning that I could take more reign over my own life. Everyone at the lab was also always super friendly and willing to talk to me and Callista and I think that set a high standard for how nice my coworkers ought to be in the future. My people skills definitely improved because I was worried I wouldn't know what to say to professionals (I tend to get intimidated by older people in the work force) but I think I came out of my shell at UII in that area.

Everett Abeles, Engineering Intern
Rice University | Summer 2024

My internship at UII gave me the opportunity to apply my engineering knowledge in ways I hadn't expected. Working alongside leadership, gaining hands-on lab experience, and learning calibration and test engineering showed me how precision and problem-solving apply across many industries. The interdisciplinary environment also sparked my interest in law, which led me to pursue patent examination and prepare for law school. The experience gave me technical skills, confidence, and a broader perspective that continues to shape my career.

Callista Baker, Junior Metrology Technician
Rice University | Summer 2025

My internship at UII gave me the confidence to grow both personally and professionally. As one of my first engineering experiences, it taught me how to be resourceful, ask questions, and navigate a professional workplace. Those skills have helped me succeed in later opportunities, including my stress engineering internship at Boeing, and continue to shape my career as I explore opportunities in mechanical engineering.
