Air Compressor Repair

Lesson topics include:

  • Precision measuring instruments, 
  • Troubleshooting, disassembly, repair, reassembly, and testing of low- and high- pressure oil-lubricated and oil-free air compressors. 

UII tailors courses to the types of air compressors used by each customer.

Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Repair

Lesson topics include:

  • Blueprint reading; 
  • Precision measuring instruments; 
  • Principles of operation; 
  • Repair and maintenance of valves, switches, and condensers;
  • System defrosting, charging, leak detection, and evacuation; and 
  • Troubleshooting reciprocating, self-contained, and centrifugal air conditioning systems. 

Training Period: 3 Weeks. Continuing Education Units (CEU) Award: 12 Units.


Computer-Aided Design/Manufacturing

This course provides theory and practical training in manual and symbolic FANUC Auto Program Tool (FAPT) programming for the lathe and mill machines. Lesson topics include:

  • Basic use of computer equipment; and
  • MS-DOS and Windows operating systems for Print-a-Plot and TekSoft CAD/CAM systems (including ProCAD, ProMill, and ProLathe).

The course or similar experience can be a prerequisite for the Computer Numerically-Controlled (CNC) Machine Training course. 

Training Period: 3 Weeks. Continuing Education Units(CEU) Award: 12 Units.


Lesson topics include:

  • Manual and symbolic FANUC Auto Program Tool (FAPT) programming; and
  • Operator control panel operations for the lathe and mill and machine setup.

Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) Machine Training


Lesson topics include: 

  • Mechanic mathematics; 
  • Shop tools and safety; 
  • Inspection, maintenance, and repair of gasoline internal combustion engine and lubrication systems; 
  • Electrical principles/maintenance; 
  • Lighting, accessory and warning circuits; 
  • Air bags; 
  • Electrical ignition, fuel, and emission systems; 
  • Onboard computers; 
  • Heating and air conditioning systems; 
  • Hydraulic systems; 
  • Automotive and truck suspension systems; 
  • Steering; and 
  • Clutches.

Training Period: 2-5 Weeks. Continuing Education Units (CEU) Award: 8-20 Units.

Construction Mechanic I


Lesson topics include 

  • Maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of manual and automatic transmissions, transfer case and auxiliary gear boxes, transaxle and front wheel drive, drive trains, differentials and axles, wheels and tires, hydraulic and air brakes; and
  • Introduction to diesel engines and unit injector engine fuel systems, Cummins diesel engine fuel system, Caterpillar fuel injection system, tracked construction equipment, and mechanical and hydrostatic drive trains and suspension systems. 

Training Period: 2-5 Weeks. Continuing Education Units (CEU) Award: 8-20 Units.

Construction Mechanic II


Courses provide specialized training in advanced construction trade skills. The list of courses is below:

  • General Preventive Maintenance

  • Equipment Power Train
  • Equipment Chassis

Training Period: 2-5 Weeks. Continuing Education Units(CEU) Award: 8-20 depending on length of course.

Construction Mechanic Trade Skills: Intermediate & Advanced


Lesson topics include:

  • Safe handling of refrigerants;
  • Ozone depletion;
  • The Montreal Protocol;
  • The Clean Air Act;
  • Replacement refrigerants;
  • Leak testing and detection;
  • Refrigerant oil; and
  • Type I, Type II, and Type III Certification. 

The instructor will administer an EPA Certification Exam upon completion of the course. All personnel are eligible to take this training if their work associated with refrigerants requires EPA certification. 

Training Period: 1 Week. Continuing Education Units (CEU) Award: No CEUs awarded.

EPA Refrigerant Technician Certification


Lesson topics include:

  • Basic training in builder skills including carpentry, tile laying, and cement repair;
  • Interior and exterior finish including painting and preservation; 
  • Minor repairs of drywall, doors, windows, and suspended ceilings; 
  • Electrical maintenance and minor repairs of electrical outlets and interior wiring; 
  • Maintenance and troubleshooting of mechanical equipment including duct intake and exhaust systems, and of air conditioning and boiler malfunctions; 
  • Sheet metal layout and cutting to support repair and maintenance activities; and
  • Maintenance and installation of small plumbing fixtures, pipes, and ducts.

Facility & Building Maintenance Technician


Lesson topics include:

  • Analysis of hose failure; 
  • Hose and fitting identification; 
  • Hose assembly and testing; 
  • Operation of the dogleg assembly machine; 
  • Hose installation procedures; and 
  • Repair of broken and leaking flexible hoses.

Training Period: 2 Weeks. Continuing Education Units (CEU) Award: 8 Units.

Weight Testing


Lesson topics include:

  • Principles and operations of hydraulic systems and components; 
  • System analysis, purification and flushing; 
  • Hydraulic valve and actuator repairs; 
  • Accumulator, pump, and motor disassembly, inspection, repair, and reassembly; 
  • Hydraulic test stand operating procedures; and 
  • Component testing. 

Training Period: 3 Weeks. Continuing Education Units (CEU) Award: 12 Units.

Hydraulic Systems Service & Repair


Lesson topics include: 

  • Pre-alignment procedures; 
  • Measurement and calculation; and 
  • Alignment procedures on horizontally and vertically mounted units using both Laser Alignment and ACES Systems.

Training Period: 1 Week. Continuing Education Units (CEU) Award: 4 Units.

Machinery Shaft Alignment


Lesson topics include:

  • Use of precision instruments; 
  • Job planning; 
  • Blueprint reading; 
  • Principles of rigging; 
  • Use of fiber and wire rope, slings, chain hoists, cranes, and scaffolding; 
  • Fabrication of rigging equipment; 
  • Hand signaling; and 
  • transporting equipment. 

Training Period: 2 Weeks. Continuing Education Units (CEU) Award: 8 Units.

Rigging


Lesson topics include:

  • Molding O-rings and grommets; 
  • Use of polyurethane, plastisol, Plexiglas, room-temperature vulcanizing (RTV) silicone rubber, glass-reinforced plastic (GRP), and epoxy and Teflon coating for ball valve repairs; and
  • Installation of plastic tile. 

Training Period: 5 Weeks. Continuing Education Units (CEU) Award: 20 Units.

Weight Testing

Lesson topics include:

  • Visual inspection of weight test equipment; 
  • Use of dynamometer and test equipment; 
  • No-load, static, dynamic, and rated load testing procedures;
